Just rec'd the newest issue of AARP magazine which contains a BUNCH of recent updates for dealing with chronic pain in specific areas of the body.MANY of the references speak to issues that seem concomitant to HAE and it's aftermath of pain. One specific mentioned that tumeric was good for stomach cramping and the article was specific in that it not only listed "natural" remedies, but pointed out that users of these are finding more and more medical validations of these "therapies. SOOO,if yer an "Oldie" like me,or know one,ya' might try to "appropriate a copy from one of your older friends. I accidently tossed mine away, so I'll be tryin' to snatch another...

Due to my stupidity in Tossing the AARP mag out before quoting it here, I spent some time out at the street (today is pick-up day) in 15 drgree cold temp to get this documentd here. (sometimes I'm NOT a real good friend to myself!?)
here goes..(S'cuse the typing blunders?
"Alternative treatments that work on Pain"...Nutritional and Herbal Remedies:All chronic pain, but especially abdominal discomfort, headaches, and inflammatory conditions (!?) such as rheumatory arthritis... "How They Work": By boosting the body's natural immunity, reducing pain-causing inflammation, soothing pain and decreasing insomnia. --- Examples: Anti-inflammatory diet: A Mediterrean eating pattern high in whole grains, fresh fruits, leafy vegetables, fish, and olive oil.Omega-3 fatty acids: Nutrients abundant in fish oil (WD-40 is basically fish oil-how mwny shots?) and flaxseed that reduce inflammation in the body. Ginger: A root that inhibitd pain causing molecules. Tumeric: A spice that is known to reduce inflammation...MSM: Methylsulfonylmethane,a naturally occurring nutrient that helps build bone and cartilage.
The list ALSO endorses Biofeedback, relaxation, guided imagery, and meditation to lower stress.
This and MUCH more is on pp 26 (health Report) in the January/February issue of AARP{the magazine...no author cited) but for more info visit the website of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (www.nccam.nih.gov... Hope this is of interest?!

When I get this is my stomach, I have to get a Toradol shot, seems to work well for me, I am a nurse and the provider i work for is used to me needing these shots from time to time...everyone at work sees me with swollen hands, etc....I have an attack at the beginning of every birth control pill pack that i start....usually in my feet or hands, ..I'd had a cold for quite some time, started my pill pack and bang, it went into my stomach....Toradol is non addictive, it's an anti-inflammatory/pain reliever....it's stronger than things like ibuprofen, but not as strong as something like demerol or dilaudid.

Thank you to every one who has posted as my 11 yr old needs something stornger to help with the pain management the Immunologists keep telling me to give her papnadol or nurofen but they dont do anything...they also prescribed endone which contains morphine but it takes 45 minutes to work.
I am at a loss and thank god I read this as there has to something out there with more effect.

Stacey and I live in Victoria Australia and although there are other sufferers out there I wouldnt know.

Hi Robert........

Thanks for posting that - as this is pretty much what I have been doing on the Eat To Live plan - and it just confirms to me that what I am doing is helping - this will help me in times when I wonder why I am being so strict with my eating...!!!

Thanks again for the information and confirmation..........

Hi, I am new, the last post recommends "lifestyle change?" May I ask what you mean? I have never heard this before. Thanks. NavySubMom

Thanks,
Cindy.
